Missing notification area icons

Have posted similar in windows Help and support newsgroup...
Have migrated WinXP Pro from IDE to SATA drive (used Acronis and tried
Partition Magic) but now missing all notification icons... no volume control
(enabled in Sound Properties), no LAN icon (enabled), no antivirus or
firewall icons (enabled by default), none are "hidden", TaskManager says
these items ARE running... what's happening... Help???
 
PS... have used File and Settings Transfer Wizard, have run XP repair
install... all to no avail.. worse since Repair Install

NOTE: It has been reported that the problem could be caused by your screensaver.
Turn off, or change, the screensaver and see if the problem disappears.

Try disabling one or both of these services from Start | Run | Services.msc

SSDP Discovery Service
Universal Plug and Play Device Host
