Missing NIC and modem

Having installed SP2, my network adapter and dial-up
modem have disappeared from device manager. I know I have
an up to date driver for the NIC (Realtek RTL8139/810x)
because Windows Update provided a new one only a month
ago. Short of uninstalling SP2 I don't know what to do.
Any advice would be graetfully appreciated.

I have the same problem with my network card. After
installing SP2 the network adapters icon has disappeared
from Device Manager and does not show up in Network
Connections. Even if I chose "Show Hidden Devices" in
Device Manager the card is not displayed. However, my
network connection is functioning properly and the card is
listed in system information. I have read on other sites
that others are having the exact same problem. There are a
number of KB articles pre-dating SP2 that propose fixes to
this problem but those fixes do not work with SP2
installed. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have the same problem. Did you ever find a fix?
Thanks, Bob
