16-Sep-06 / No Network traffic monitor icon
How can I get the Network traffic monitor icon back in system tray?
After the HD went south, repartitioned/reformated re-installed Win XP Pro SP2
and tried restore some of my old settings. Things back to reasonable state now
except I found RAM went bad too - down from 224 to 97 MB. Win XP and 3
memory testers report RAM "OK" but left only 95 - 97 MB. Buy new when can.
All works OK - except a bit slow and hanging some time in email or when multi-
tasking or too many windows open. Response to left or right mouse-clicks,
usually
slow. Do have a lot of files in 2 of 3 partitions (only 40 GB HD, tho').
It's not the classic case of icons disappearing from sys tray / notification
area. It's just this one. Sometimes it's there, sometimes not. Where does it
come from, anyway? What has to be set up to show it for sure? It's not in
right-
click taskbar\properties\Hide...\Customize either.
I used the network wizard couple, 3 times already. There's a small (8-port)
hub
downstairs I connect to. That goes to a small 1 or 2-port router to the line.
Internet & Network access OK, as before.
Anyone have this problem before? I feel blind w/o that flashing monitors icon.
Is there an alternative way to monitor, w/ min resources?
Appreciate any advice.
