Network Icon disapeared

Network icon or connectivity icon.....2 pictures of monitors flashing back
and forth just disapeared....i right clicked in the tray, went to properties
and in the notification tab it doesnt allow me to check the network
box.......i dont understand what happened

This has happened to me many times, only this time the power, network, and
volume icons have disappeared too. Windows will not let me reselect the boxes
even though I am the system administrator. Does anyone know how to fix this?

oh, and I'm using vista.

I have searched for the answer for weeks, no luck!

Drives me nuts when the battery icon will not display when my laptop is on
battery.
