missing network connections information

I am trying to trouble shoot an Internet Explorer problem in Windows XP Pro.
When I attempt to look at the network connections, the folder is empty even
though I know the settings are there (verified by ipconfig in dos). While I
know the settings are correct, it still annoys me that I cannot access them
through network connections.

can't say for sure - I was first informed of a problem on this pc about 4
days ago - user thought it was locking up when he attempted to navigate in
explorer - turns out it was just super slow in loading anything typed in the
address bar or accessed from the drop down history. The connection info may
have been lost long before that but with everything working ok, I didn't have
any reason to check. Thanks
