missing link

Using XP home SP2. Recently lost link my documents/ my pictures to send e
mail, the link no longer operates.
Using O EX, New Question window would not open, had to use Firefox to operate.
I suspect a virus or other threats, can someone healp and advice on cleaning
up this problem.
