Hi

Looking for help with a problem I'm having with the icons for my .lnk (shortcut) files in Windows 2000. All my link files now have the windows icon associated with them, not the specific program icon. However, when I click on a shortcut it stil
starts the correct program. I have tried to change the icons using properties. I can select the correct icon but th
new icon doesn't stick, it reverts back to the windows icon in the shortcut. Tech support at Gateway tried some things, but they didn't work. Told me I would have to reload Windows. Anyone have suggestions other than that

Thank

Hi Al,

That generally happens when the files in I.E. are
deleted
I think SpyBot does the same thing also
To get them back, resave a website page and see if
it comes, back after you reboot.

It could be that your icon cache is overloaded. Try using the free
ActivIcons utility from http://www.cursorarts.com/ca_aifw.html to
purge the cache...

1-- in ActivIcons, go to its "Desktop Controls" screen and increase
the icon cache size to either 2048 or 4096, and then

2-- rebuild the icon cache. The options for rebuilding the cache are
on 2 small round buttons at the lower/right corner. Shut down any
programs running in the background, then click the round button
farthest to the lower/right corner (your system will reboot, and the
icon cache will be cleaned out).
