When checking My Network Places, on my XP m/c, I cannot see the icon for my
other Networked 98se m/c...
Yet, when I click Start, Run, and type \\computer98se, i can then see
it...I can then access the shared folder...
When checking from the 98se m/c to the XP m/c I can see the Icon, click it
and open the shared folder. and all is OK...
This is driving me nuts, so I hope some of you brains out there can come up
with an answer. I think it's something to do with the XP m/c...but... ?.
thanks...D

If My network Places doesn't contain a shortcut to a shared disk or
folder on another computer, create the shortcut manually: click "Add a
network place" and follow the prompts. Specify the network address in
this format, substituting the actual computer and share names:

\\\computer\share

Many thanks Steve for the help. I couldn't get it to work with the actual
names, but someone else came up with a similar suggestion , only using the
Address Numbers. \\192.168.1.101\ my shared docs
This way it worked first time and gave me an Icon in "My network places "
I must say this has been a tough project for me. I'm no expert but I know
enough to follow instructions when reading help files. I think a bit of luck
is also required here, and certainly the help of people like you.
As for all the reading I've done on the different websites, there are lots
of good articles on this subject, but I can only give them an 8 out of 10 as
there's always that little bit of info missing.
Keep up the good work all you MVP's out there...Thanks again...
