missing folder

Peter

I've downloaded a .zip file onto the desktop and after scanning it I
unzipped it. I can find it in Search and it appears to be in the root
directory. But when I go to the C:\ drive I can't find it. The hidden
files are available.

Any ideas?

Thank you

In fact, I can add something: when I deleted the .zip file from the Desktop
the Search can no longer find it. Then, I restored the file to the desktop
and the folder appears again with all the individual files inside.

I thought that when you unzip a file it opens itseld somewhere on the disk;
but where?

Thank you for your help solving the mystery.

Wherever you told it to during the Unzip process.....

Wherever you told it to during the Unzip process.....

That's the problem: it did not.

I think what happened is that the .zip folder unzipped itself onto the same
folder, even if the Search found it in the root directory. That's why when
I deleted the .zip folder from the desktop, the Search could no longer find
anything.

Strange, though.

Any ideas?

Did you right-click and choose "Extract All"? If you clicked "Open", you just
looked inside. The "Search" is seeing the files "inside" of the zip
file.(They're still "Zipped".)

It depends on where you told the unzip app to place the unzipped files.
