missing files in folder

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me. I've spent the better part of the
day trying to figure this out.
All of a sudden all my music files in "my music" folder have gone missing.
The folder says that it is empty and does not have anything in it. Yet, the
space of the files is still being taken up somehow. The free space on my
hard drive is still the same. I've searched the computer to see if the files
have been transfered, but they don't appear anywhere. I tried coping a file
into the folder to see they had been deleted by accident, but the file after
being copied went missing also, no idea where it went.
I have scanned for viruses and spyware, but nothing has come up.
If someone has had this problem before or knows what to do to fix it, please
help. I have a lot of sound files for my music class in there.
Thank you.

Have you somehow set the folder contents as hidden or system files?

Are you running Windows Media Player 9/10 with rename & rearrange settings?

Hi,
I put "view hidden files and folders" and the files are not there. I don't
know how to check to see if they are system files though. I have an old
version of windows media player.
