missing emails, random delivery

alana

when i try to send an email with a word document
attachment, delivery is not certain. I have tested to as
many different email addresses as possible, some get the
email, others don't. there does not seem to be any
pattern. operating system is Windows xp professional,
using outlook 2003, word 2003. i have tested using
outlook and internet mail via I.E. No pattern. Any ideas?
Thanks!

there are a number of possible causes for missing mail - are the recipients
email servers blocking mail with attachments? do they use a spam filter that
is catching your messages? are the attachments large? are you using RTF
format to send messages to non-outlook users?

attachments are not large. recipients are able to receive
emails with attachments other than word document
attachments from me. recipients are outlook users. there
is no apparent pattern to the problem other than it tends
to be with word attachments and no undeliverable message.
No sign of where the emails are going! It is not an isp-
specific problem because I have had my husband try to
send the attachments using outlook at work and am not
able to receive. Thanks for your help.

And it's not *every* message with a word doc? If every message containing a
doc attachment disappeared, it would indicate a spam/content filter on the
server not allowing docs through.

The message is completely lost - they don't get a message missing the
attachment, correct? if the message arrives but no attachment yet the file
size is high enough to have an attachment, the recipients may see the
attachment when they hit Forward on the message. (There is a problem with
some mail servers and content id's and Outlook can't render the attachment
initially, but can when it attempts to forward it.)
