Missing email

I am currently trying to change from Netscape Mail (which I have loved using
for years) to Outlook XP 2002. While I am experimenting, I have made Outlook
my default email but also check Netscape for incoming mail, to make sure
Outlook is receiving properly. Well, it isn't. I find important emails that
come into my Netscape box (which I have changed so it is no longer my
default) that never arrive in my Outlook box. This makes me fearful of
changing over completely, as I believe I will be missing emails. Am I doing
something wrong? Thank you.

You're probably not leaving a copy on the server for Outlook to pick up
when Netscape's already downloaded it. Can't advise on Netscape (don't
use it) but that's a common scenario.

Then being new to this, my question would be, how do I leave a copy on the
server? I assumed if Netscape is not open (so does not download messages
until I open it) that the messages should go to Outlook. And that would not
answer the question as to why some go through and some don't, would it?
Thanks for your help on this because it is really frustrating me!! This is my
business email and I can't risk missing important emails.

If you fool around with the settings for an Account in Outlook (or
Outlook Express) you'll find an option to leave a copy on the server.
If you don't tick this the first PC to access the remote mailbox (at
your ISP) will "move" the file down to your PC, rather than copy it.
So, if you check your mailbox at the office, you won't be able to
download mail again at home. Unless you tick that box.

Netscape may have a similar option, but it's possible it may not. I
don't know the Netscape client so can't tell you, but if you hunt around
the settings you may find one. You're right that Netscape won't
download anything if it isn't running, but be alert to the possibility
that you've set up a mail client on another machine somewhere too!

Thank you. I will try all this a bit later, when I have a moment. I
appreciate your help. Hopefully I can find a setting that will take care of
this. I have this on only one computer so at least don't have the issue of
mutliple computers. Thanks again.

That's a fairly safe assumption.

And that would not answer the question as to why some go

You could enable Outlook's diagnostic logging and see enactly what the
client and server tell each other about the number of messages awaiting
