Missing E-mail messages

I could not find a group pertaining to Outlook Express so
I chose Windows General.
Outlook Express in Windows XP Home SP2 is reporting X new
messages when it open and receives messages. However,
what is displayed on my screen is X -1 new messages most
of the time but once my screen showed X -3 as compared to
what OE showed. I have confirmed that the missing
messages are indeed missing. I can go to my ISP web e-
mail page and view the number om new messages on the
server and then close it down. I start up OE and the
number of new messages reported agress with the number on
the web e-mail page, however, the actual number displayed
is one less than that number. I then go back to the web e-
mail page and all there are 0 new messages. That one
message just disappeared. It is always missing from the
bottom of the list (last received). I don't know how long
this has been happening. I just discovered it three days
ago. I installed SP2 about 8 days ago, I don't know if
SP2 has anything to do with it or not.
My mail box is not full. I get my mail daily.
Has anyone heard of this problem and what can be done to
fix it.
Thanks for any help.
