missing dll file in scanpst.exe

My outlook 2007 crashed. I cannot open it as I get an error message "Cannot
start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of
folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in file. It goes on to
say I should run Scanpst.exe. I found the file, however, when I try to run it
I get another error, "This application has failed to start because
SCNPST32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this
problem." I have gone on line and downloaded it again, did the repair 3 times
and it's still the same. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to
get this working again?

You write "downloaded it again" - downloaded what?

Do you have the file SCNPST32.DLL, e.g. in C:\Program Files\Common
Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 ? If so, can you try to register it?

Start -> Run -> cmd

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033\SCNPST32.DLL"

B.t.w. where did you find scanpst.exe - the same location?

I downloaded the trial version of Office 2007 and did a repair. I found the
scanpst file by doing a search however I couldn't find the dll file there. I
did what you said and it stated regsvr32 failed to load. Make sure the
binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with
the binary or dependent .dll files. The specified module could not be found."
I don't know if this makes a differece but my machine is a 64 bit.

Actually I just figured out what the problem was. When I found the scanpst
file, it was the one in my downloads. When I changed from searching index
files to everywhere, I found the working scanpst file, ran it, repaired it
and low and behold my email is back working again. Thanks for your help!

My problem is a little different. I may have messed up because im I moved my
SCANPST file to my desktop. I get the same message as lavender. "This
application has failed to start because SCNPST32.dll was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I did the reinstall
repair and it said it worked. I stlle get this error. Do I need to download
a new SCANPST?
