Missing Disconnect Button - Windows XP

When using either "Remote Desktops" or "Remote Desktop Connections" to
connect to my Windows XP machine I am missing the "Disconnect" button
from the Start menu. The only option I have is to "Log off xxxxx..."

As a result, when I close the Remote Desktop connection down it logs
my user off and all running applications are shutdown. The next time
I log into the machine I have to restart everything.

When a friend of mine connects to his Windows XP machine through
remote desktops he has a disconnect button. When he disconnects he is
able to re-connect at a later time with all his apps still running.

Does anyone know how to restore my missing Disconnect button?

Thanks.

You could just press the "X" at the top/middle drop-down for the remote
screen. Does the same disconnect as Start button --> disconnect.

When doing this it also logs me off of the machine instead of
disconnecting and all of my running apps are shutdown. Is there any
registry or group policy settings that would have switched off the
disconnect button?

Thanks.
