Missing Comdlg32.ocx error

I get a "Missing Comdlg32.ocx error file missing or corrupted" when running
or installing some apps is there a fix for this out there?

Windows Vista beta 2 build 5384 Installed on formatted HD

Which apps?

Have you tried installing the apps in Compatibility mode?

Have you tried running the apps in Compatibility mode?

Foxy.exe It's a program that loads a profile into a Thrustmaster HOTAS
cougar joystick. And the download program for the Level-D 767-300er for
FS-2004

Felt like I was pulling teeth. ;-)

Try this.

Copy and paste this into the search
bar on the Start Menu.

regsvr32 \windows\system32\COMDLG32.OCX

You should have one result come up listed
under Programs- click it to execute it.

You should see a message saying "DllRegisterServer ... succeeded"
Something like that.

Reboot.

If for some reason that doesn't show up in search,
use Run with the same command.

Don't know if this will solve your problem,
but a quick google search said try this.
Google is your friend. ;-)

No joy on the search. Followed the procedure as far as the run with same
command. Reboot and got the following message.

"Component 'comdlg32.ocx' or one of its dependencies is not correctly
registered :a file is missing or invalid"

Still no joy in vista 32

The search trick might not have worked unless you
have indexing on. Maybe you need to unhide hidden
files and folders. Also, uncheck Hide protected operating
system files.

Have you searched the system32 folder to see if
comdlg32.ocx is actually there?

Yes the file is there found it manually.

I'm all out of suggestions. There obviously must be some
type of incompatibility/conflict. Right click on the file and select
Properties, then the Details tab. What version do you
have? Mine is 6.0.84.18.

Funny thing is, under the General tab, it says
Created: Thursday, June 15, 2006
Modified: Friday, August 22, 2003

I have no idea what that means.

Anyway, some XP programs are just not going
to work in Vista. The software company
will have to fix that.

Blind squirrel theory applies... I happened to accidentally see this while I
was looking for a different update.

I downloaded and saved the update. When I ran it by double clicking on the
saved file I got a "this update does not apply to your system message". Is
there a way to force the update?

If you go to Windows Updates in Vista it will list the ten or so updates
that are installed. Then you can double-click on each one in the list to
see the description. Perhaps the update was already installed.

First, try uninstalling the update, rebooting and manually installing the
update, if, of course, the update already says it was installed. The theory
is that it was not installed correctly and a registry key is keeping you
from manually installing.

Second, try uninstalling the update and rebooting and then not installing
the update. The theory is that the update made your situation worse, not
better.

Either way, if I were you I would submit this as a bug report, since they
issued a patch that apparently was not appropriate for your computer.
