missing cell outline when "clicked"

For the second day now, I have noticed that an open Excel workbook
eventually stops highlighting cells I click on. The name box changes to
reflect the columns/rows selected, but the cell is not outlined.

Have I accidentally turned off some feature? Closing the workbook and
reopening it fixes things, but I'd like to know the origin of the problem.

If it only happens in one workbook, try copying the sheets to a new
workbook, and cleaning up the worksheets using this code:
