Mismatch Result after copying a Read-Only File

Using Excel 2000, I copied a read-only file, protected by
a password. The copy was pasted to a new Excel worksheet,
using NO special pasting functions.

In one cell, in one column of the pasted data, I
discovered it was NOT the same as the original data.

Is this electronically possible, or human error?
