Mirror sets

I realize that mirror sets is something only found in W2K
Server since it now requires dynamic disks but is there a
utility out there that could mirror IDE drives in W2K Pro
or is there a way to make W2K Pro do this natively? I
have a W2K Pro workstation in the office that may last
forever but would make all of us feel better if we could
have some kind of dynamic backup like this without
spending tons of money, which we don't have, putting in a
SCSI adapter, drives and changing the PC's OS to server or
buying Backup Exec.

Thanks.

The best way would be to use a hardware mirroring IDE disk controller.

By the way, a mirror is not a backup. File system corruption, viruses,
theft, unintended deletion etc. etc. would not be covered. Generally, a
mirror is only to reduce the downtime in case of a hard disk failure.

Win2000 Pro comes with NT Backup, that can be used with - for instance - a
USB hard drive for backup purposes.

Thank you, Bjorn.

Hard disk failure is the reason I've considered this as
that's what happened to this PC a couple of months ago.
Luckily the user had preformed a backup of the data she
had (our payroll) so we recovered that. Unfortunately we
lost the inventory records.

This was the worst hdd failure I'd ever experienced,
however, as I couldn't even recover any data by making it
a slave drive and copying from it to a new drive. The
drive would spin but nothing was read. I guess it lost an
arm inside or the mechanism froze for some reason.
Luckily, again, the drive was under warranty so Maxtor
replaced it - with a larger drive.

Thanks again,
Dana
