Mirror a Drive

Fred

I was wondering how you mirror a drive. I have a client
that uses a word processor and a network drive. I would
like to have all her documents automatically stored onto
the network drive.

I have searced the microsoft knowledge base and could not
find easy instructions for me on how to mirror a drive.

Please help,

Fred

Mirroring a drive requires 2 hard drives and a RAID card to be installed in
the PC. You can not "Mirror" to a networked drive.

You may want to look at Symantec Ghost or Drive Image. These two software
allows you to create a disk image and store it anywherre you want.

You don't need to mirror the whole drive to do this. Mirroring the drive
would copy the whole complete drive file for file. You don't want that you
just want to copy the word docs to the network drive. Just manually copy and
paste the files to a folder on the network drive. Then when she works on
them she would open them on the network drive, work on them, and save them.
They will remain on the network drive until you move them(if needed).

Mirroring a drive refers to a form of RAID. In it's simple
form all you need to do is the following:
1. Make sure the Network share is re-connected at each
boot.
2. Redirect her "My Documents" folder to one on the share.
However, if the PC is a notebook, you'll have to use Offline
files so local copies of files can be used offline.

You could create a network share just for her, then set the word
processor default directory to point to that share. Works like a
charm.
