Minolta Dual Scan IV vs. Nikon Coolscan V

Hi everyone,

If you were a scanning newbie, and looking for a scanner to archive your
shots to cd, which one of the two scanners would you buy and why? Does the
Minolta's grain dissolver really work? What about banding that some people
have mentioned? Is the ICE on the Nikon worth the extra 300?

Looking for help from people that have the scanners and can tell me the
pros/cons and also real world issues, like if the film holder is really
tricky, and so forth. No place around here (Southeastern MA) for me to look
at these scanners, so I'm looking for any helpful resources.

Thanks,
Scott

I can't answer ALL your questions, but I can tell you the Dual III
performs well under most conditions. The Dual IV has more features,
such as improved optics. The film holders are slightly finicky, but
you quickly catch on to the "sweet spot" where the scanner grabs it
and pulls the holder into the unit.

I liked the price: $500 CDN. I saw the Dual IV for $244 US just this
morning...

I can tell you that Digital ICE is amazing! Not perfect but very dam
close. I own the Minolta Scan Elite F-2900. $180 on Ebay with SCSI
card and shiping cost.

Good Luck
