mini dv firewire prob

I have a sony minidv hooked up with firewire on my asus a7n8xe deluxe
mobo. it worked fine once (back in july) but hasn't worked since.

i'm running xp sp2 home edition, i've tried to capture video with
several different software apps, which all say no device is installed.
the firewire driver is dated 2001and is from MS.
bios version 1013
xp sp2

nothing else is, or has been hooked up to this firewire.

i haven't taken the card out and reinstalled it yet, hoping for the add
new hardware device, nor have i tried updating bios. i'm not even sure
if i put version 1013 on. i know i can update it, i have before, but
i'm hesitant of messing with it.

any thoughts?

Did it stop when you updated to SP2? My P4C800 the firewire stopped working
when I installed SP2. I ended up buying a new firewire card. Interestingly
a HD failure recently prompted me to do a clean install of XPw/ SP2 and now
all works again.
