Mime Type Settings in IE

When a file is opened in IE, it appears that WIN2K IE
uses the actual MIMEType of a file, and NOT the file
extension to determine how to diplay/open a file. It
also ignores the file type associations set in Windows
under File Types. For example, a file type of TIF is
opened using the Kodak imaging viewer. If you change the
file type association in Windows, IE still uses the Kodak
imaging viewer. Even if you change the file type from TIF
to something else such as AFP, IE will still use the
Kodak imaging viewer. The only way I could get IE not to
open the file and use the viewer I had associated with
the file type was to rename or delete the Kodak program.
This does not appear to be the case using IE V6 under XP.

I need to find a way to change how IE is behaving. I
want to open all image types in a single viewer that I
specify, not use a different viewer for each, e.g. Paint
for bmps, Kodak viewer for tif etc.
I found some information on Mimetype detection in IE at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?
url=/workshop/networking/moniker/overview/appendix_a.asp
But, couldn't figure out what had or could be changed.
Thanks.
