MIME encoding for attachments in Outlook 2000

M

Marc Juffkins

Hi,

I have a client that needs to encode attachments that he sends to a
particular contact in MIME format using Outlook 2000.

I have seen that in Outlook XP and Outlook 2003 in the options of a new
message you are able to select the attachment format to either Default,
MIME, UUencode or binhex but this option is not there with Outlook 2000.

Does anyone know if the above can be achieved using Outlook 2000?

Thanks,
Marc

Hi Marc,

Sorry for the delay.

We can do as the following steps.

1. Open Outlook and click Tools

2. Click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.

3. Click the Settings button

4. Select MIME and select Encode text using "Quoted Printable" and check
the "Allow 8-bit characters in headers"

5. Or select the Uuencode

6. Click OK

7. Close the Options.

Thanks for using Microsoft News Group!

Sincerely,

Hi Steven,

I do not have the Settings button on the Mail Format tab of the
Tools|Options menu selection.

I have looked at Outlook 2000 (which is where I have a problem) and the
settings button you refer to is definately not there.

Please advise.

I *think* only Outlook 2000 in internet mail only mode has all the options for
plain text encodings, i.e. corporate/workgroup mode doesn't enable the
customization of some of these settings.
Outlook 2002 and 2003 do not enable the customization of encodings at all. (I've
been asking several times in this newsgroup WHY this is the case. I fail to
comprehend how a robust e-mail client does not want to have a variety of options
for message encodings. But none of the MVPs in this newsgroup seem to be
interested in discussing this - too bad.)

Hi Marc,

Sorry, I have double check the options in my Outlook 2000. I really can
find the option. I also has send the screen capture.

If you can't find the option, would you please give me the screen capture
of the Mail Format tab?

I will check what's wrong.

Thanks for using Microsoft News Group!

Hi Steven,

I emailed you directly the screen grab but the email address came back as
incorrect.

Please can you let me know your email address either via this newsgroup or
via (e-mail address removed) - you can also post your screen grab to this
address?

Thanks,
Marc

Hi Steven,

There is no Internet E-Mail tab!

We are using Exchange here not Internet email.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Hi Marc,

I checked this. If your Outlook is configured to connect with the Exchange
and you use the Exchange account as the email account, there has no such
option in the Outlook 2000.

The option only available for the Internet mail account.

I think we can select the "Microsoft Outlook Rich Text or HTML in the Mail
Format tab in this case.

Sorry for the long troubleshooting.
