No.

or do I have to uninstall Pro before installing Home ?

You can't actually "uninstall" XP - you will need to boot from the XP Home
CD, and re-format the partition.

but please tell us, WHY are you wanting to "downgrade" to Home from Pro?

You need to do a clean install of Home. No downgrading allowed.

hairybarbarian,

There are two things you can do. You can install XP Home and have a dual
boot into either XP Home or XP Pro. The only other option is to reload your
PC using XP Home. There is no way to overwrite XP Pro with XP Home and just
use XP Home.

Today hairybarbarian commented courteously on the subject at
hand
Can XP Home Edition be installed over XP Professional
Edition, or do I have to uninstall Pro before installing
Home ?
why on earth would you want to? I can think of no advantages
Home has over Pro and dozens of really important disadvantages.

You've already gotten several answers explaining that downgrades aren't
supported, but I wanted to add a question: Are you aware that XP Home is a
subset of XP Professional, and there's nothing in Home that's not also in
Professional? Home has extra features that you may not need, but if you just
don't use them, there's really no harm in their being there.

The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to
format the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path
or technique.

Simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll be
offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
