Migrating from Win98SE to XP

I'd like to migrated to XP while retaining ability to use my current
Win98SE setup
for a few months. My basic plan is to install a new hard disk and
create two bootable
partitions, one with an exact replica of my current hard disk with
Win98SE and
all my applications, registry etc., and the other with a fresh XP
installation.

So, the question is what is the best procedure for accomplishing this?

What occurs to me is to use Drive Image of similar tool
to move the current hard disk image (which has several
partitions) over to the new drive. Then, use Partition Magic or
similar tool to add
a new partition into which I can install XP. I'll use a tool like
BootMagic to
select the OS I want to run. After a few months I expect to be
comfortable enough with
XP and have everything I need from my Win98SE partition so I can then
remove it.

Is this going to work? Any better ideas?

I've done similar things in the past, e.g., installing and running
multibooting for Win98SE & Linux,
so I'm not a complete stranger to the ideas. Just need to gets some
reassurance from
those of you who do this sort of thing regularly.

Hard drive manufacturer's provide software with their drives that facilitate
the moving of the operating system and all software to a new drive. You do
not have to buy separate software.

So, buy your new/larger drive, use the manufacturer's software to partitoin
and set up 98SE as you want. Then install XP on a different partiton and you
will then have a dual-boot configuration.
