Migrating from Outlook 2000 Offline Folders to Outlook 2003 Cached Mode

So my laptop had Outlook 2000 on it using offline folders - sync every
30 minutes and when disconnecting. Connecting to old exchange server
(5.5?).
I uninstalled Office 2000 - which I guess still leaves a lot of config
info on your machine.
I put down Office 2003 (yay!) and set it up for cached use. It still
looks like the old offline folder / sync stuff is getting executed. I
disabled the automatic syncing, but I really want to be sure my machine
is set up properly with cached mode and not have the offline folders
interfering. Do I need to do anything else like remove offline folders
somehow?

Thanks,
Bob

Did you change your Send/Receive group settings after installing OUtlook 2003? Offline folders are essential to Cached Exchange mode. Don't remove them.

If you want to ensure that you have an .ost file in the new Outlook 2003 Unicode format, you can simply create and use a new mail profile.

Thanks Sue.
I changed by send/recieve group settings after installing Outlook 2003.
I now have one group called All Accounts that has all my folders in
it. It is set to send/receive when offline only, and then only on
manual send/receive (F9). I plan never to actually send/receive.

Are these settings correct?

I'm not sure if you would know this, bug going from outlook 2000 /
offline folders to outlook 2003 / cached mode seems like a common thing
to do. Is there a writeup somewhere on issues to consider etc.

Thanks,
Bob

Since you didn't quote the previous message, I'm not sure what problem you're trying to solve. But with the settings you describe, Outlook should automatically sync your mailbox and (optionally) Public Folders\Favorites when it is online. When it is offline, it will do a send/receive only when you tell it to.

Thanks again Sue, and for pointing out what I forgot to say:

I'm trying to get rid of the situation where the local copies of mail
and appointments gets out of sync with the copies on the server. This
happened to me all the time with Outlook 2000 offline folders. I'd end
up with a couple of dozen items that had synchronization conflicts.
At a previous company, this would never happen with Outlook 2003 cached
mode.
My concern was that some of the old Outlook 2000 settings would
interfere with cached mode, so that these conflicts would start showing
up again. In other words, my fear was that there was the local
repository for cached mode (which works well), and a separate
repository for the offline folders (which didn't work well).

Again,
thanks for your time & putting up with my ignorance.
