Migrating data to Outlook 2007 freezes program

I've just upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007 Professional and all the programs
are working fine except Outlook 2007. When I try to start it up, the window
comes up that it is migrating previous Outlook settings and preferences, but
then it just freezes and does nothing. I'm unable to actually open the
program.

Outlook cannot survive an upgrade installation. Never has.
You must create a new Outlook profile from scratch and configure it to use
the data you so carefully backed up before you attempted an upgrade
installation.

How did you configure it to reference your old data?

I didn't configure anything that I know of. Everything was done
automatically without any prompting for my input.

How do I create a new profile from scratch? It won't let me even open the
program.

You don't need to open the program.

I had this exact problem except that I upgraded to Office 2007 Enterprise. I
fought with this stupid thing for HOURS. I couldn't find answers anywhere to
fix and then I fixed it myself and found this discussion...go figure. What
one of posts below advised about creating a new profile is true, but
confusing to those who may not know anything about computers and not know
what it means. Here is how I fixed it...

Go to control panel.
double click on mail.
Click on email accounts.
Email accounts tab will pop up...highlight and delete the email accounts
that are listed.
close.
Then restart your outlook. It should open completely then.

Now, you will have connect your outlook to your email server to send and
receive mail. This is a whole other step that you may find out how to do (if
you don't know how to) somewhere else on this site. I really hope that
someone finds this useful.

I'm glad this fixed it for you, but what you describe in no way creates a
new mail profile.

I just realized that you are right Brian, my instructions do not create a new
profile. What I did was delete email accounts that were listed and then after
outlook finally opened then I put my email accounts back in. So for all
others reading this...you can try my way or try the other ways listed on this
page. What I did worked for me.
