Could anyone please recommend software to allow me to connect a MIDI
keyboard to my sound card and record and edit tracks, mixing them down
to WAV or MP3?

I'm struggling to find any free software that'll do this.

Many TIA.

To repeat a recent post, synthfont and timidity++ are midi->wav renderers
http://timidity.sourceforge.net/
http://www.synthfont.com/

Audacity is a popular free prog that can apparently assemble / mix tracks.

Now all you need is a MIDI sequencer. I used to use Anvil Music Studio
http://www.anvilstudio.com/
but it was so unreliable that I just gave up and plunked it down for
Cakewalk Music Creator, which was like $40 and does everything you want
(record, edit, render, mix) pretty well.

Have you looked at Shareware Music Machine?
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/
(has a mix of free and share...)

Good luck..
