Microtek service - NO MORE REPAIR

T

Microtek has closed their repair department. All the spare parts were
shipped back to Taiwan. This includes every part except the film
drawer. For example the top glass is molded into the casing, if that
gets a scratch, a new one is unavailable.

My $1450.00 Artixscan is only 14 months old, just out of warranty, i am
original owner and have all paperwork. This scanner is still in
production, it is Microtek's top rated flatbed. All that Microtek can
offer is to exchange it for a new one for a $830 plus shipping costs
for both scanners in the exchange.

What a waste of money it was to buy this, and how foolish it would be
to throw good money after bad again. Professionals cannot make a living
using equipment that is unrepairable after only a year. Does anyone
know if you can buy Epson parts or get service work done? How about
other manufacturers?

Thomas,

I have a Artixscan 1800f that is about 18 months old. I had a problem
with lines appearing in my scans and called up to speak with a
representative about the problem. They quoted me a price that was less
than half what you were quoted and included shipping a replacement
scanner to me and picking up the old scanner for free. I would suspect
that the representative that you spoke with thought you had a 2500f or
something even more expensive when they quoted you that price. All in
all I think it is more than a fair system. I get a new scanner after
my warranty period ended for less than 1/4th what I originally paid for
the unit. I would recommend that you call up Microtek again and ask
someone as to what your true cost would be on a replacement. Hope it
helps!
