Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2

My Vista computer says that the installation of Security Update for Microsoft
XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181) failed. I tried to re-install
it from the Microsoft site
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...F5-CB46-43DF-A2B8-185639BA2807&displaylang=en),
but that installation failed too. I get the following error message: "Error
opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location
exists and is writable." Is this update important? If so, how do I get it?

I use genuine windows XP service pack 2 with automatic update. Everytime i
connect to net the 'XML Core Services 4.0 service pack 2(KB936181) downloads
and installs. When I look at the update history, it had installed itself
successfully for the past 40 times. I dont know how to stop it.
