Microsoft Word

I am using Windows XP. When trying to email my resume to potential
employers, they all email back saying I have to send my resume using
Microsoft Word. I have my resume in Microsoft Works Word Processor. I have
also tried creating it in Word Pad but this distorts all the wording. I am
not the greatest with computers. Can anyone please tell me how to get my
resume into Microsoft Word? Found an excellent job posting but they said
they cannot accept resumes by regular mail nor fax, MUST be emailed in
microsoft word. PLEASE HELP

Save it as RTF. RTF is the interchange format. The morons you want to work for (this is a criminal enterprise isn't it) won't know.

After you write the document and save it in the default
WORKS format (wps) use the "file, save as" command to save
it in an alternate format, you can save as RTF (Rich Text)
or you should have the option of saving as a .doc WORD
format, just use the down arrow to select from the options.

OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org) is a free, open-source Office suite.
Among other things, it has a word processor that can save documents in
MS Word format.

Why tell him to buy Word, when he doesn't need to buy Word? All he
needs is Open Office, which will save in Word format, and it is
free.

Neither Works nor WordPad is Word. These are three different
programs.

First of all, what they mean is that they want the resume in
Microsoft Word *format*. That's a file formatted in a particular
way, and with the extension .doc.

You can produce such a file using many different programs. The
most obvious of those programs is Microsoft Word. So you can go
to your local software store, or one on the internet, and buy a
copy of Microsoft Word (or Microsoft Office, which contains
Word).

If you're looking to do this as cheaply as possible, there are
several other possibilities:

1. You could buy an older version of Word or Office at a place
like eBay. That would still produce .doc files that they can
read.

2. You can buy the current version of Microsoft Works *Suite*
That includes Word, and it's the cheapest way to get a copy of
the current version.

3. You can use a program like WordPerfect. Although a .doc file
is not WordPerfect's native format, it can produce such files.

4. You can download and use the free OpenOffice or the
inexpensive PerfectOffice. These contain "imitation" Word
programs, which may not have all the features of Word itself, but
may have enough of them to do whatever you need to do. They also
produce .doc files.

5. If you just want to have this single document to send out, you
might want to consider asking a friend who owns Word to do it for
you. He could then put the file on a diskette or CD for you or
E-mail it to you, and you would then have it to E-mail whenever
you needed to.

Because the folks wanted his resume in Word, that's why. On the other
hand, if Open Office can infact save to word format [I dont have it
installed] then I agree that is an excellent option and thanks for
recommending it.

Still, personally, I'd still want to see how the final product displays
in Word before I'd send it as a resume is quite important. I suppose one
can get Open Office and then a free Word viewer from MS to verify the
format will be looking ok eh?

I use Open Office alot and I have never had any trouble with the .doc files
that it puts out so I would recommend this method as the
easiest and least expensive solution.

When I go to my reusme program it asked for a 25 charater code on the cd
case. I just bought my computer. I would like to know what is up with the
pass word. And how I can use my system.

This has nothing to do with Windows XP. Apparently you're supposed to enter
a registration code for the resume program. Check that CD for a readme file
or contact the vendor if you are having trouble entering it.

addendum - I noticed late the Microsoft Word in the title. Is that what you
mean by your resume program? If so and you don't have the CD there may be
a label on your new computer with the Office activation code or in other
materials that came with the computer. You need to enter that code to
activate Word.

The store you bought the computer from may be able to help you.
Otherwise, contact Customer Suppport for your computer manufacturer.

Christina:

The copy of MS Word you received with your new computer is either a
demo and is asking for a 25 character product ID, or was preinstalled
by the computer seller and likewise needs the product ID to run.

Did you receive a MS Word or MS Office CD with your new computer?

Job Hunter,

The easiest way to convert/save any documents is to use Microsoft Word. However, if you don't have this expensive suite then may I suggest that you forward MSWorks document to me and I will convert it for you free in Word format {and Adobe PDF format} and you will be able to email to many employers.

Good Luck in your job hunting and if you need any assistance then you know who to contact. London/UK is in recession and jobs are very difficult to come by. Email me on (e-mail address removed).

Best regards,
