I'm still interested in why the question was not answered. I couldn't
answer because I didn't know the answer, and maybe nobody else around at
that time knew the answer, so if no answer was available what did Ray do
wrong? It is ridiculous to complain that Ray didn't offer an answer to
the specific question if you have none yourself :)

Given that most OPs don't give full relevant info at first (Because like
the rest of us they sometimes don't know what's relevant to the
particular problem) Ray offered a "Possible" solution in an effort to
get the OP up and running with something. If MS image viewer doesn't
work try Irfanview etc. Better IMNSHO than telling the OP there's no way
out of it except to persist with the non working MS application. Often
the alternative gives a clue to the problem with the original application.

Thanks, Charlie. That was pretty much my thinking. I've pretty much given
up on defending my actions, but will continue to offer what I consider to
be helpful options to problems when no solution is offered.

I agree Charlie, why has noone answered the question yet?

Interestingly enough, I see other posters do the same thing when someone
posts questions about problems with a newsreader/email client on vista.
Others will suggest a different newsreader/email client and noone
jumps all over posters for that either.

Key words here are 'MS Brand', this makes it officially no longer 3rd
party. I know they purchased it recently from another company (or
purchased the company, I don't remember which).

Good for you Ray. More people than just you see the value of your
contributions here. :)
