microsoft word program

I recently had to re-install the program. It now asks for a 25 digit CD key that is supposed to be on the CD jewel case. When I ordered my computer from Dell this was either already loaded or when I loaded it I threw away the label. Anyway, I cannot use this program without it What do I do? I have asked by e-mail the support desk and they keep referring me back to the 25 digit COA number which the program will not accept.

It is Dells responsibility to provide the CD Key if the software was preinstalled. You will have to contact them to get it. If you do not have any luck contact the Better Business Bureau. You can also get a Key from Microsoft but only if you are installing the software from an original cd and not a copy(there may be a charge for it)

Dell puts the product key on a sticker on the side of a tower or the bottom
of a notebook.

I am confused, you try the 25 digit number, but it own't except it. The 25
digit number needed (which is alpha-numeric by the way) is the number if
that is what you have. if you threw away the number, then what number are
you using?

In any event, only Dell can help you, and you either insist that they do, or
your software warranty has concluded with them.

The number that I have is the product code.

Hello
The Word Key Code program that is distributed with new computers is usually
accompanied with a book the says Microsoft Word on it and the License and
key code is stuck on the front of it.

"...contact the Better Business Bureau"?
Why?
Dell as well as other manufacturers have no responsibility to keep an
archive in case a customer loses the documentation?
There is absolutely no reason to contact the BBB unless possibly the
computer was shipped without the Product code and Dell was not
responsive to the OPs timely requests.

The Product Code for Word is NOT on a sticker attached to the case.
It will be on the packaging the CDs were packaged.

David;
For Windows...Yes.
But the OP is needing the Product Key for Word.
That Product Key is with the package the CDs were kept.

OK, now are you getting that key (or code) from the container/box that has
Word on it (or WorkSuite, etc), or from the side of your PC. If from the
side of your PC or the installation booklet for XP that sometimes has the
Product key for it still attached?

If it is the latter two (PC or booklet), then you have the wrong Key. If the
first one, then Dell is responsible if your under software support still. MS
will help but there is a fee for it since it is OEM (original equipment
manufacturer)

After the purchase of a computer, you have two options.. you can

1.. RTFM.. or
2.. TTFMA

The first option is best..

Glossary: RTFM = Read The Manual.. TTFMA = Throw The Manual Away

Strangely, people take offence at adjectives (born of frustration) starting
with the letter 'F' being interposed between the words ' the' and 'manual'..
even suggesting that manuals are not part of the packing to save the
computer from bumps in transit generates derisory comments.. if these
people can't read manuals or notices telling them not to throw certain items
into the garbage, one then understands why they have so many problems trying
to operate a computer..

Glossary: Adjective = descriptive reference.. interposed = strategically
placed.. manual = useful printed material.. packing = items of original
package not required for daily operation.. 'generates derisory comments' =
name calling after you tell somebody that they are in the wrong.. garbage =
NOT the place for useful items like manuals (ref. glossary 'manual')..
problems = what you get if you don't 'RTFM' (ref previous glossary items)..

:)
