Microsoft Word 2000/XP

After dowloanding SP2 I cannot open WORD or any files in My Doucments. I
uninstalled SP2, then unistalled and reinstalled WORD, no change in problem,
error messsage comes up immediately, "Microsoft has encountered a problem and
needs to close" Text of message sent to MSFT is in winword exe that reads
C;\DOCUME 1|nameLOCALS1\Temp\WER 3.tmp.dir00\appcompatitxt
Any ideas on what problem and repair is will be appreciated.
 
Go to the Office Update site and verify that WORD is up-to-date before
installing SP2.
