I have Windows Live OneCare and Spybot Search & Destroy. I disabled Spybot
and the update succeeded. Thanks Gerry.
 
I am pleased James your problem is resolved. I am a little puzzled as to
why Spybot S & D should interfere as it does not on my system. It should
give a prompt to Allow or Deny. Perhaps someone else knows why?

Sorry, my reply was incomplete. I also disabled WinPatrol at the same time.
So it was one or the other of these two (WinPatrol/Spybot Search & Destroy)
which was causing the problem.
