microsoft spyware vs firewall

Z

ZOhaib

Is there a need of any firewall like zone alarm, mcafee or
norton etc. besides running Microsoft spyware?

A

Andre Da Costa

Yes, both work hand in hand, the Firewall, protects certain ports used by
the Interenet that can be a conduit for viruses, spyware and trojans to
enter your computer. The Spyware prevents intrusion from occuring or it can
clean spyware from an infected machine, a Firewall cannot do that, so its
best you have all three on your machine, Firewall, AntiVirus and
AntiSpyware.

Yes. Microsoft Antispyware does not substitute for the basic triad defined
here:

www.microsoft.com/protect

You need patches, a firewall, and antivirus protection.

Microsoft Antispyware is a layer above and in addition to these. It doesn't
substitute for any of the more basic protections.

you could just install SP2 and use that as your firewall
its easier and works much better in conjunction with the
AntiSpyware

Note Alien, Microsoft AntiSpyware is not a Firewall, Microsoft AntiSpyware
prevents spyware, Windows Firewall is a barrier between the users computer
and the Internet, you need both the Windows XP SP2 Firewall, (if the person
is running Windows XP) and Microsoft AntiSpyware, not to mention a good
AntiVirus product.

Note-When you install MSAS, it will disable the Windows
firewall.

This is absolutely incorrect.

Some instances of spyware removal have the side effect of disabling the
Windows firewall, but this may be fixed by the next update, to be available
before July 31st.

Otherwise, Microsoft Antispyware should have no effect on the Windows
firewall or any other.
