I have a sidwinder game pad that connects to my Pc through the game port, I
go to game controllers and select the microsoft sidewinder (Auto detect) but
then in the installed game controlers window it says that the device is not
connected. I can't work it out ! please help I'm just dying to play NHL
2005!

microsoft sidewinder doesnt work withxp

i have a sidewinder precision pro joystick that i bought about 3 or 4 years
ago
and once i upgrade to XP i could no longer use it.

microsoft themselves says it isnt supported and there are no drivers so it
wont work with XP at all

You can get basic functionality for this device because the drivers are
already in Windows 2000, but the software for mapping keyboard buttons to
controller buttons isn't available. To use the device do the following:

1. Connect the device to the gameport
2. Start -> Run -> Control Panel
3. Switch to "Classic View".
4. Run the Gaming Options control
5. In Gaming Options Click the "Add..." button.
6. From the list choose "Microsoft SideWinder (Auto Detect)"
7. This should install your device.
