Microsoft Security Updates vs. Norton Internet Security 2004

I have just installed Norton Internet Security and wonder if I should continue to use Microsoft Security Updates and whether the Security Updates could possibly affect my Norton Security adversely. Can anyone address this issue?

Yes, you should continue to download and install any applicable
Microsoft security updates. NIS, while a useful tool, cannot fill the
void left by a non-maintained operating system.

Updates do not replace antivirus which does not replace the need for a
firewall which doe not replace the need for updates etc.
All 3 are necessary.
Skipping any one leaves your computer quite vulnerable:
