Microsoft Runtime Error

I keep getting an error message when I try to run Microsoft Word or any
other applications by using the 'start' menu. Here's the error message I get:

*********************
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error!
Program C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
*************************************

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Someone told me it was caused
by the google toolbar, but I'm not using the google toolbar!

Thanks-

Sounds like you may have a virus/spyware infestation of some kind on
your computer.

Make certain that your antivirus software is completely up to date,
with the virus definitions not more than a week old, and do a complete
virus scan of your computer. Then get a second opinion by doing an
online virus scan at one of the free scanning sites such as:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/

Then go to MVP Jim Eshelman's Spyware Guick Fix page at
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm and follow the instructions there
to check for and clean up any spyware that has gotten onto your
machine.

Good luck

Deb, try this also:
Start Run<type in: SFC /SCANNOW
1. NOTE THE SPACE BETWEEN THE C AND THE /
2. Have your XP install CD handy to replace any corrupted/missing files. I
sure hope this helps.
