microsoft outlook 2003 personal folder does not open

when i launch microsoft outlook 2003, it reports an error: THE DATA FILE
'PERSONAL FOLDER' WAS NOT CLOSED PROPERLY. THE FILE IS BEING CHECKED FOR
PROBLEMS.

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.


After furious head-scratching, paul asked this group:

does it open after it's checked for errors? that message just means outlook
didn't close properly and its being checked for problems when it's opened.
