Microsoft Outlook 2003 email attachment shows file extension

Microsoft Outlook 2003 email attachment shows file extension when saving; it
saves ok if I do not change the name and just click save. If I change the
name and do not add the file extension, the file becomes unrecognizable by
windows.

I think that's standard behavior. You're overtyping the full name &
extension so you need to add the extension.

Thank you for your reply. Microsoft Outlook 2003 never use to show file
extension.

The problem is when you save and change the name and do not add file
extension the save file will not open

Not true. While you can't double-click it to open it with the correct
application, you can always tell Windows what program to use to open it or
start that application, then open it with File>Open in that application.
