Microsoft Opening Theme Too Loud

When I start up my computer or turn it off the Microsoft theme song is so loud that it's causing my speakers to distort. I have tried turning down a number of different volume controls in my control panel, but this seems to have no effect. How do you turn the sound down or turn all of them off all together. I use my computer for recording music and loud sounds are hard on my monitors

Thanks, Ian

I don't know why those two would be louder than other sounds but if other
system sounds are tolerable why not eliminate these two all together?

Sounds and Audio Devices. (control panel) Sounds tab. Set "Exit Windows" and
"Start Windows" to none.
