I don't know exactly what happened, but when I booted my
computer and tried to open my files such as excel, word,
outlook, etc. it's says the feature i'm trying to use is
in a CD-ROM set-up cannot find the required files. Check
connection to the network. Error message: 1706

If anyone has a solution for this problem please advice.

Thx

Do you still have access to the original installation media? Sounds like
Office got hosed and may need a reinstall - or it was set to run some of
itself from a server image, not run everything locally. Try a reinstall.

Not without a lot more info. What does restoring it mean? Did you run detect
& repair? A full reinstall, custom, specifying "run all from my computer" ?

like you said run reinstall in my computer. you think I
should ran MSCONFIG? maybe it'll reset startup. I'll try
to diagnose my system. however, if you have any other
idea i'm all ears. thx

For starters:

OFF2000: Error Message: "The Feature You Are Trying to Use Is on a Network
Resource That Is Unavailable" or "Error 1706" (Q258847)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q258847

OFF2000: "Error 1706...", "Installation Ended Prematurely..." When You Run
Office Setup (Q253768)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q253768

From Kayode: I usually get around this error message by using the "Install
on First Use" option while logged on as an Administrator - it has
worked so far

There is also an error 1706 to do with MS Exchange; see
