i have microsoft office 2000 on my laptop. my laptop came with windows vista
on it, and since i put office 2000 on it, it has been having a blue screen
come up and shut down. how can i stop this?

so is the microsoft office 2000 program causing the blue screen shut downs.
there is nothing else different with my computer that i know of.

Office 2000 was not developed for Windows Vista.
It is obsolete since it was developed over 7 years ago
for an ancient 16-bit DOS-based operating system.

You might try OpenOffice.org instead. It is a free download and very
compatible.

hey thanks so much. one more thing, will the blue screens hurt my computer
any?
No. Don't be afraid of blue screens when running Windows. It's perfectly
normal.

Cheers.

True enough, though it generally works just fine.
It is obsolete since it was developed over 7 years ago
for an ancient 16-bit DOS-based operating system.

Obsolete? Not if it meets the users needs.

Developed for 16-bit DOS? Hardly. Office 2K was developed and
released along side Windows 2000, a full 32-bit OS.

Possibly, but it's not very likely. BSODs are most commonly caused by
defective hardware or incompatible/corrupted device drivers. Only very
rarely will an application such as Office 2K cause them. The occurrence
of the error after the installation of Office 2K may just be a coincidence.

The next time your PC crashes, read the BSOD. The top 2 or 3 lines of
this screen will contain information that can help solve your problem.
Carefully write down these lines and post the exact text back here.
Hopefully, one of us will be able to provide some insight.

Additionally, you should check your Event Logs to see if they can
shed any light on the matter, To do so, Right-click Computer >
Manage > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and Application. Record
the specifics of any red-flagged error messages and post the exact text
back here. Again, hopefully, one of us will be able to provide some
insight.
