Ellen,

You download viewers for free, but you can only look but not touch. Meaning
that you cannot make any changes to any of the files.

Excel Viewer 2003

Word Viewer 2003

You can open *.doc files, created with MS Word, with Wordpad. They may not
have all the original formatting. Right click a *.doc file, select Open
With and select Wordpad. Or open Wordpad, File, Open and navigate to the
*.doc file.

You can purchase any MS Office programs for cash at a local store, i.e.
Office Depot, etc.

Depending on your location, you can purchase MS Office 2003 (11) for
$240 as an OEM version. This gives you everything you had before.

OEM versions don't come with support and have a few other catches, but
they are the full MS Office product and work just like the retail
package.
