It seems that many people are experiencing problems with installing this
update. I sent a suggestion to Microsoft, to fix this problem asap. Please go
to 'Suggestions for Microsoft' and vote 'I agree'. Hopefully Microsoft will
then take action before we know it!

I received the "New Updates Are Available" in my tray today. The update is
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1. Every time I try to install it,
the installation fails. Is this the issue/problem you are referring to? Now I
can't get the "New Updates Are Available" out of my tray nor can I install
the Framework update.

same here!!!! Vista is getting to be like Windows 98
was----impossible!!!!

Steve & mtnmama,

I just read this by doing a search for .NET Framework on this site and it
worked for me. I manually downloaded Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service
Pack 1 to my desktop from the following site.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...4F-088E-40B2-BBDB-A83353618B38&displaylang=en.

I executed it and then had to restart my computer. I then ran the
installation icon from my tray and it installed. Do a search for .NET
Framework and read the postings for today and yesterday.

I'm not sure this is a VISTA problem. I'm having the same problem on XP Pro.

Thank you for the info it worked!!!!

Did all that and today I find it is back again.

When are they going to fix this? It is becoming ridiculous. But wait, its a
MS program -- huh.

Manual download and installation to XP Home, Svc Pack 2, also worked for me.
But this is a very frustrating problem to experience and troubleshoot,
especially since the things Microsoft tells you to do if it doesn't install
do not work. I agree they need to fix it and fast.
