Microsoft MPEG-4 decoder broken

Hi,

All of a sudden I experienced troubles with playing/converting some video
clips.

"Sherlock - the Codec Detective" shows that my Microsoft MPEG-4 Video
Decompressor is broken ("The driver file for this codec was not found").

I tried to reinstall Windows Media Player 10, Microsoft codecs packs etc.
but it did not help.

Can anybody give me a hint what to do?

Kind regards

Sorry, I don't know how to fix the MS MPEG4 decoder, but as a bypass,
you can download and install FFDSHOW and configure it to process the
appropriate FOURCC codes (e.g. MP4S) and it will do the job very well.

Hi, thanks for help and the tip.
In the meantime I solved the problem by going back to a restore point and
reinstalling several media programs...
