I am managing an NT 4.0 intranet of 30 computers. I wish
to upgrade to Windows 2000 Server but cannot figure out
how to set up my intranet intraoffice mail. In NT 4.0 it
was easy: Just set up a postoffice with Microsoft Mail.
In 2000 Server I find nothing. Can anyone help?

I agree that Exchange can be pricey if you're a small company and don't need
all the functionality Exchange provides.

Personally, I think there is a market for an "Exchange Lite" product that
caters for single-domain, single-site small companies and just provided the
basic functionality.

If it had a clean migration path to the full Exchange I think Microsoft
would sell more Exchange licenses.

Just my opinion.

Perhaps thats the POP3 and SMTP service built in to Windows Server 2003.....

POP3 service? I'd better look harder. I haven't found that yet.

Add / Remove Windows Components
E-mail services.

Very basic, played with it a bit in beta but haven't looked at it in RTM..
If you find anything worthwhile let us know.

As a short term solution for a scenario like yours, I was able to copy the
postoffice folder structure to the win2k server- worked fine (it was a few
years back, so i dont remember the details).
