Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object

I'm using Access 2003.

I'm trying to export a query (156,000 rows) as a text file but get the
following error messages:

Export text wizard
"The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'mt compile
final.txt'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the
path name correctly."

When I click OK to the above error message I get the following:

Export text wizard
"An error occurred trying to export data from table 'mt compile final'. The
data was not exported."

I've tried browsing to the default database folder when doing the export,
but get the same error message. How do I make the export work?

Thanks,
Pat

Hi Pat,

Sometimes this happens because you're using an import/export
specification that doesn't match your query.

John, how do I determine whether my import/export specification matches my
query? Sounds like this may be the problem since I was able to export to
Excel format no problem (though the export got truncated at 65,000 rows of
course).

Much appreciated,
Pat

I assume from this that you are using an i/e spec in this export.

The first thing to do is make sure that you're using the correct spec
(if there's more than one in the database).

After that, about all you can do is
1) start exporting via File|Export, click the Advanced button in the
text export wizard, select the spec and make sure it does match the
query; or
2) ditto, click the Advanced button and create a new spec.

I'd also try exporting the file to CSV without creating a spec. If
that produces the same error message, then the i/e spec is probably
not the cause!

Thanks John, just ascertained that I haven't been using an i/e spec. Was
able to make the export work by creating a table with a make table query and
exporting that rather than directly exporting the query itself.
